Christmas at Portobello

My name is Jasmine, I am gaining marketing work experience with Kensington and Chelsea Council, where I am assisting the team with promoting Portobello market. For my first task I had been given the responsibility of planning four detailed Instagram lives on the days of the ‘Christmas at Portobello’ market. On the live I communicated with the viewers by showing them the market, asking the stall owners to answer questions the public would like to know and explaining what was going on in the area, to help encourage the people to come down and support the small businesses.

‘Christmas at Portobello’ is an event where several market owners - old and new, come down to Portobello from around London to sell their products in the market. This event was supposed to be spread out over three Sundays in December, the 6th 13th and 20th. COVID19 disrupted the final Sunday, so the market on that day did not go ahead as planned. This market was the perfect place to buy family and friends Christmas presents. It offered a diverse range of products, including vintage and handmade clothing, jewellery, artworks, self care products and many more. The streetfood stalls were open and very popular, along with a mulled wine stall that attracted several customers that were getting into the Christmas spirit. Whilst completing the Instagram lives, I appreciated the positive uplifting vibe Portobello has to offer, as well as the variety of stalls containing every target audience. It is an area that is very inclusive, ensuring everybody feels welcome.
